Fierce historic floods, steam boats and water erosion shaped the ever changing Willamette River. Investigate how water builds, breaks and moves as hydrology shows us how the valley we live in came to be the unique place it remains today.

Thursday Field Trip: Spirit River Journeys Willamette River Rafting from Crystal Lake Sports Park to Hyack Park.

Drop off at Crystal Lake Boat Ramp and Pick up at Hyack Park in Albany. Rafting Fee $40.

 

Monday: Explore Avery Park

Tuesday: Field Trip to Philomath Scout Lodge-Rowing at the beaver ponds

Human use the Willamette River and affest on plants and animals
  • Resources provided by Willamette River for humans – past and present
  • Native American’s use of the Willamette River
  • Riparian Plant Identification
  • Human affects/Invasive Species

Wednesday: Bike around Avery Park – bring bike and helmet

  • Before Care/Drop Off/Lunch/Pick up/After Care: Avery House – ALL DAY
Army Corps of Engineers: Dams and River Management
  • Build a dam and test it’s strength
  • Impacts of dams to the Willamette River: morphology and biology
  • Renewable and non-renewable Energy sources/options
  • Water quality testing and indicator species: Mary’s River

Thursday: Rafting down the Willamette River with Free River Journeys. Fee: $40

  • Before Care/Drop Off: Crystal Lake Boat Dock – launch at 9am
  • Pick up/After Care: Hyack Park, Albany – finish at 4pm
  • Have fun and get wet while taking a guided historical tour of Willamette river and  wildlife.

Friday: Mary’s River shallow water exploring and floating

  • Before Care/Drop Off/Lunch/Pick up/After Care: Avery House – ALL DAY
The future of the Willamette River
  • What can we expect from the Willamette River in the future?
  • Brainstorm ideas to keep the Willamette healthy
  • Compare water quality samples: Mary’s River & Willamette
  • participate in a role playing debate about the future of a mock river

Full Day 9:00-3:00–$40
Half Day 9:00-12:00–$25

Extended Care is available from 8-9am and 3-5pm for $6 an hour. We are flexible if you need to drop off earlier or pick up later.
