Position Description: The software developer will further develop and maintain an interactive website for the Classrooms Take Charge program. The website is being used by thousands of students in 16 high schools throughout the Pacific Northwest.
About Us: The Corvallis Environmental Center is a non-profit organization that educates, engages, and inspires people to create a healthy, sustainable community. Energize Corvallis is a program of the Corvallis Environmental Center and is dedicated to helping Corvallis become one of the most energy efficient, climate friendly communities in the United States. Energize Corvallis developed a Classroom Take Charge program and website that encourages high school students to adopt environmental behaviors that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Funding for Classrooms Take Charge is made possible by an Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Education grant.
Software Developer Duties:
⦁ Collaborate with staff and volunteers to review and refine requirements for the website.
⦁ Continue development of the website functionality, including user registration and tracking, results capture and summarization, dashboards, downloadable reports, real-time display of key metrics, and other features.
⦁ Ensure that the system supports multiple, geographically diverse schools; provides adequate performance to intended user base; is scalable to increased usage beyond the initial two-year Classrooms Take Charge program; provides a polished and professional user experience; and performs well across a wide range of end-user devices.
⦁ Maintain and upgrade system documentation including a high-level system design and overview, database structure, description of program code and system files, and maintenance and support procedures.
⦁ Other duties as assigned.
⦁ Experience with end-to-end development of interactive web applications
⦁ Experience with the Laravel PHP framework
⦁ Expertise in relational database design and optimization
⦁ Experience delivering and deploying reliable web solutions to a large user base
⦁ Attention to detail and self-motivated
⦁ Ability to work under strict deadlines and to budget time efficiently
⦁ Ability to work independently and collaboratively
⦁ The ability to dedicate part-time work to this project for at least six months
⦁ A BS or BA in Computer Science or a related field preferred but not required
Compensation: $23-$27 per hour
Hours: 185 hours: 5-15 hours per week through June 2016.
