 GAPS High School Internships!

Our High Schooler Internships are designed to engage high school students (age 16 and up) who are interested in our food system and education of younger students. These interns simply attend an agreed upon number of events (including set up and take down), or if interested, put in time helping prepare for the events with Corvallis Environmental Center staff.

These internships are unpaid but are a great opportunity to gain experience and engage in community service. Let us know if you need National Merit Volunteer Hours.

Interns 18 or older (at any point during their internship) need to be approved as a volunteer by the school district before beginning any in-person activities with GAPS. Here is the link to be approved as a GAPS volunteer.

Farm to School HS Interns: Minimum commitment of 6 hours (roughly 2 events plus an hour of training/mentoring). This necessitates working in person with school-aged children alongside experienced educators in one of three different settings:

School Family Nights: Help as we bring food & nutrition education to the school communities with activities, samples and a smile.  These typically happen in the evening and are an excellent opportunity to visit with lots of families and talk about local food.

Classroom Food Adventures* (CFAs): These fast-paced classes are ~45 minutes each during the school day. We bring a local harvest into GAPS K-3rd grade classrooms to make and taste recipes with students.

School Field Trips*: These field trips are during the school day and occur at a farm or the Corvallis Environmental Center's production and education garden, SAGE.

* HS students must consider how long their open periods are and get prior approval from their school to participate in internship activities during the school day.

If you are interested in completing an internship with the Corvallis Environmental Center, the first step is to complete this application.
