Rock and roll through our local geology learning about rocks, gems and geodes! Make rocks and break rocks to understand volcanics and earth forces. Camp will include rock hunting and geocaching along our bike adventures!

This camp encourages free choice learning and is available for independent bikers.

Monday: Bike along Marys River

  • Before Care/Drop Off/Lunch/Pick up/After Care: Avery House – ALL DAY

 Earth’s Layers and movement

  • Sink into earth’s crust at the river
  • Make and bike Earth’s layers – investigate earth’s liquids, solids, and magnetic forces
  • Explore the ancient world of Pangea
  • Learn about the tectonic plates that cover Earth’s surface (Oreo  tectonics)
  • Bike to where Danawi Creek enters the Mary’s to explore boulders
  • Create your own erupting volcano!
  • Make geode that will grow into crystals for Friday

Tuesday: Sunset Park Mountains to hills

  • Before Care/Drop Off/Pick up/After Care: Sunset Park – ALL DAY
  • Lunch: Advanced group at Marys River Park in Philomath and Beginner group at Sunset Park
Coast to cascades to desert landforms – bike oregon obstacle course
  • Formation of mountains and hills
  • Bike to Philomath (Ages 7-14)- how  bike movement compares to water movement on hills
  • Bike danawi creek (ages 5-8) –  exploring where there is rock and where there is not
  • Topography of Oregon’s Geology ( Oregon rock Art)
  • -Use lava rock for Cascades, sand for Plateau, grass for valley and clay for Coastal Range
  • Guess which plant/average rainfall/tree/weather belongs in each bioregion (Ricky’s Atlas)
  • How Geology creates weather?

Wednesday: Cycle with rocks at Oak Creek

  • Roll with the rock cycle
  • GeoCache river rocks on Oak creek

 Thursday: Bike along the Willamette River -rock diversity

    Geodes – agates

  • Minerals in the river
  • Flow and sedimentation of rocks along banks
  • Zillight , Jade, Agates special rocks in Oregon
  • Fool’s gold geocaching
  • Island geocaching TBA – still do not know if we can get to Island

 Friday: Bike along riverfront to Michaels landing

Rock to soil

  • Rock formations – making rock structure art
  • Finish geodes and discover cave rock formations
  • Rock Identification and sorting
  • Bike to Underground trail on Mary’s river
  • Geocache in different Soil Layers along the Mary’s

Full Day 9:00-3:00–$40
Half Day 9:00-12:00–$25

Extended Care is available from 8-9am and 3-5pm for $6 an hour. We are flexible if you need to drop off earlier or pick up later.
