Rock and roll through our local geology learning about rocks, gems and geodes! Make rocks and break rocks to understand volcanics and earth forces. Camp will include rock hunting and geocaching along our bike adventures!

This camp encourages free choice learning and is available for independent bikers.

Monday: Bike along Marys Rivers and get wet as often as possible!

Topic: Earth’s Layers and movement

  • Sink into earth’s crust at the river
  • Make and bike Earth’s layers – investigate earth’s liquids, solids, and magnetic forces
  • Explore the ancient world of Pangea
  • Learn about the tectonic plates that cover Earth’s surface (Oreo-tectonics)
  • Bike to Danawi Creek where it enters the Mary’s to explore boulders
  • Create your own erupting volcano!
  • Make geode that will grow into crystals for Friday

Tuesday: Marys River Park – 300 S 11th St, Philomath (behind the library)

Topic: Coast to cascades to desert landforms-Mountains to hills

  • Bike an obstacle course of Oregon
  • Formation of mountains and hills
  • Bike to Philomath (Ages 7-12)- how bike movement compares to water movement on hills
  • Bike Danawi creek (ages 5-8) –  exploring where there is rock and where there is not
  • Topography of Oregon’s Geology (Oregon rock Art)
  • Use lava rock for Cascades, sand for Plateau, grass for valley and clay for Coastal Range
  • 2Guess which plant/average rainfall/tree/weather belongs in each bioregion (Ricky’s Atlas)
  • How does geology create weather?

Wednesday: Bike along Marys Rivers and get wet as often as possible!

  • Roll with the rock cycle

Thursday: Bike along the Willamette River and get wet as often as possible!

Topic: Rock Diverstiy – Geodes & agates

  • Minerals in the river
  • Flow and sedimentation of rocks along banks
  • Zillight , Jade, Agates special rocks in Oregon
  • Fool’s gold geocaching
  • Island geocaching – we will taxi the campers by raft over to the island across from pavilion.  Life vests are provided.  Staff are water safety trained.  Access to this island is safe, shallow and easy to get to.

Friday: Bike along riverfront to Michaels landing

  • Rock formations – making rock structure art
  • Finish geodes and discover cave rock formations
  • Rock Identification and sorting
  • Bike to Underground trail on Mary’s river

Full Day 9:00-3:00–$40
Half Day 9:00-12:00–$25

Extended Care is available from 8-9am and 3-5pm for $6 an hour. We are flexible if you need to drop off earlier or pick up later.
