Work parties are a great way to get involved at SAGE. Learn about production gardening and help grow food for families in our community who cannot afford fresh vegetables.  Tuesday work parties are open to everyone– drop-in anytime from 3pm to 6pm and help tend the garden.

Bring a group, team, business, or other organization out to SAGE for a day of service. Get to know your team and build camaraderie as you work together to grow food for families in need. Whether you come for an hour or for half a day, helping at SAGE is a great way to work together to make a difference in our community.

What to Expect:  A typical day starts with a tour of the garden. After that, your group will split into work teams to tackle different parts of the garden. Typically, work varies by season:

  • Spring is preparing the raised garden beds, planting seedlings and direct seeding, improving the soil by adding organic matter, maintaining pathways, and weeding the garlic.
  • Summer is additional planting, lots of weeding, harvesting, watering, deliveries to the South Corvallis Food Bank, and more weeding.
  • Fall is harvesting, weeding, cleaning up, cover cropping, adding leaves to the garden beds, and putting the garden to bed for the winter.

Your group will taste produce from the garden and learn about food security issues affecting our community. It’s food for thought that gives volunteers an understanding of the importance of the work that they accomplished at SAGE.

Scheduling a Group Volunteer Event at SAGE: Whether you want to volunteer once a season, on special occasions or on a regular basis, we are happy to talk with you about the right day and time for your group. Typically, we schedule groups for 2-4 hours on Fridays or Saturdays but we can set up alternate days to meet your needs.

Email the SAGE Garden Manager at SAGE@CorvallisEnvironmentalCenter.org with your preferred dates and any questions you might have.

Or invite us to your organization/business to give a brief presentation about SAGE.
