WORKSHOP: Birding By Ear

May 20, 2017 , 9:00 am12:00 pm

Come enjoy spring bird sounds at their peak!

Take your birding ability to the next level, especially in forested areas where birds are difficult to see.

During the classroom sessions, we don’t try to memorize lists of bird sounds; instead, we learn methods to help remember them and get a basic understanding of the ways in which birds use sound to communicate.

Classroom sessions will feature videos and sound clips. During the field trips, there will be listening exercises and opportunities to practice the techniques learned in class. You should already be familiar with common local birds to take this class.

The field trips will focus on various habitats: wetland, grassland & savanna, and forest (McDonald Forest & Hesthavn Nature Center).

Cost: $40 – $65 Sliding Scale                                                                                                                                                              *All 6 classes are included with this price. We understand that it may be a challenge to attend ALL sessions. It is OK to miss one part of a class, or another, but do know that each class will move quickly and cover many topics, so be prepared to catch-up!
