The Corvallis Environmental Center (CEC) envisions a community in which People Learn, People Care, People Act

In pursuit of this vision, our mission is to educate, engage, and inspire people to create a healthy, sustainable community. We do this through nature-based education, local & healthy food initiatives, and energy conservation programs. The CEC was founded in 1994 as a grassroots effort to take action on environmental issues and today reaches over 15,000 people in Benton County and surrounding area through its programs and services.

CEC educational programming and community events are held at the Avery House Nature Center, Starker Arts Garden for Education (SAGE), in community schools, and outside at various parks and other locations. We are an active community partner including operating the Corvallis Farm to School Program and managing the City’s Dunawi Creek community garden. In addition, the CEC engages the community with annual events including the Eco Film Festival, Earth Ball, SAGE Summer Concert Series, Supper at SAGE fundraiser, and Wild & Scenic Film Festival.

The members of CEC’s Board of Directors commit to:

Attend a new board member orientation on Tuesday, October 15, 2018 from 5:30-8:30pm.
Serve a minimum of two years (three years preferred).
Attend at least 10 monthly board meetings, typically the fourth Monday of the month from 6:30pm-8:30pm. The November and December meetings are combined into one meeting in early December.
Participate in one or more Board Committees.
Attend a strategic planning retreat January 19, 2019.
Become familiar with and promote the CEC’s programs to the community.
Volunteer at a minimum of one program or organizational event per year.
Make annual financial donations to the CEC in accordance with one’s ability.
Invest about 5 – 7 hours per month for CEC Board-related work.
