Calling All Nature Explorers!

Avery House Nature Summer Camps are every week all summer for ages 5-11 with adaptations for Advanced Campers (11-14 yrs).  Every camp includes active games, hands-on learning, journaling, guided exploration, themed art projects, and nature based science.  Flexible scheduling accommodates those that want to attend full weeks, partial weeks, full days, half days and even has the option of early and extended care hours. PLEASE refer to camp weekly schedules described below.

Wildlife Scientists

June 19th – 23rd Become a detective of the vertebrate world.  Investigating and classifying wildlife with skulls, skeletons, fur, anatomy and optional dissections.  

Thursday Field Trip: Off site drop off and pick up at Peavy Arboretum

Invertebrate Life Cyclers

June 26th – June 30th Get your hands dirty catching, netting and rolling into the world of bugs! Insect investigation of all different invertebrates from worms and slugs to spiders and true bugs.

This is a beginner to advanced nature bike camp and is open to bikers of all ability levels including pedal free bikes. Bikers will be grouped by age and ability.

Bike Field Trips: Destinations TBD and will change daily with off site drop off and pick up Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Birding & Building

July 5th – 7th Soar with the ospreys, hoot with the owls, and rap with the woodpeckers as we ascend into the world of birds. Build bird houses, create a habitat for hummingbirds, learn bird calls and get a close up look at local species!

Thursday Field Trip: Finley NWR. Bus fee $20.

Wild Wing Bikers

July 10th – 14th Buzz, flap and rise on the currents of an aerodynamic adventure! Glide down trails seeking bats, bees, butterflies and bird in high flying habitats.

This camp encourages free choice learning and is available for independent bikers.

Animal Artists

July 17th – 21st Explore the animal kingdom through a variety of artistic techniques and creative projects! Getting up close and hands on with mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds and fish will inspire and inform our sketches, sculptures and mixed media art using traditional and natural materials.

Thursday Field Trip:Off site drop off and pick up at MLK park.

River Rafters

July 24th – 28th Dive into designing rafts, dams, and bridges to discover the power of water! Navigate the physics of a river through experiments with current, flow and momentum.

Thursday Field Trip: Off site drop off at Crystal Lake Sports Park with Optional Willamette River Rafting for campers 8yrs and older.  Off-site pick for rafters at Hyack Park in Albany at 4pm.  Off-site pick for all other campers at Willamette Park shelter at 3pm.

"Geode"caching Rollers

July 31st – Aug 4th Rock and roll through our local geology learning about rocks, gems and geodes! Make rocks and break rocks to understand volcanics and earth forces.

Primitive Predator

Aug 7th – 11th Fangs, claws, jaws and teeth! Journey into Pacific Northwest Native American life with flint knapping, fire-building and spear-making to be a predator and survive!

Thursday Field Trip: Cascadia State Park 9am-4pm. Bus fee $20 – Meet at AHNC.

Optional overnight camping ages 8-14 space limited to 12 students cost $40 (includes $20 day trip fee)

Pond Detectives

Aug 14th – 18th Get your feet wet and your hands dirty exploring ponds from sandy banks to tangled plants. Hunt for minnows, whirligigs, water striders and many more amazing creatures in the underwater world of our local wetlands.

Tuesday Field trip: Off site drop off and pick up at Philomath Scout Lodge.

Thursday Field Trip: Off site drop off and pick up at Crystal Lake Sports Park.

Willamette Eco-Expedition (9-11 yrs)

Aug 14th-18th Fierce historic floods, steam boats and water erosion created the always changing Willamette River. Investigate how water  builds, breaks, and moves as hydrology shows us how the valley we live in came to be the unique place it remains today!

Thursday Field Trip: Off site drop off (9am) Crystal Lake Willamette River boat dock and pick up at Hyack Park (4pm). Rafting with Free Spirit River Journeys. Cost $40

Stardust Riders

Aug 21st-25th Celebrate the solar eclipse! Journey by bike on the rays of the sun through our solar system, atmosphere, and into the Earth’s molten core. Embark on a hunt for the hidden power of the sun’s energy and unearth the secrets to life on our planet!

Bike Field Trips: Biking destinations change daily with off site drop off and pick up Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Thursday Field Trip:  Off site drop off and pick up at Adair Park.

Optional overnight camping at Adair Park (ages 8-14).  Space limited to 24 students cost $40 (includes $10 day trip fee)

Adventure Camp

Aug 27th – Sept 1st Balance between trees on a slackline, navigate an obstacle course, bog hop, bike, geocache, zipline, float the Marys River, and so much more! This is our summer capstone camp and is designed to enrich your sense of adventure!

Adventure Camp Field Trips: Off site drop off and pick up Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Thursday Field Trip: Alsea Falls: Bus fee $20.  Meet at AHNC.

Optional overnight camping ages 8-14 space limited to 12 students. Cost $40 (includes $20 day trip fee)

Full Day 9:00-3:00–$40
Half Day 9:00-12:00–$25  
Full Week of Full Days–$200 (With some exceptions, see camp registration for details)
Full Week of Half Days–$125 (With some exceptions, see camp registration for details)
Extended Care is available from 7:45-5:15 for $6 an hour. We are flexible if you need to drop off earlier or pick up later.
